My name is Louise Grassby and I studied a B.A.Hons in Art, Art History and Printmaking at the University of Derby in the 1990's. Following this, I majored in Art and Drama whilst pursuing a B.Ed at Bradford University. After graduating from there with a 1st class degree, my first job was for two years as an art teacher in a middle school in West Yorkshire and then I worked in primary schools for another 23 years. Whilst I was a student, I led art and craft classes for junior aged children, and art has always been a passion and priority.
During my time as a teacher I gained a Foundation Degree in Art Therapy at Sheffield Hallam and worked on a voluntary basis in the Art Studio with patients and their familes at Wheatfields Hospice, Leeds. I have always believed in the therapeutic benefits of art and being creative, and in my spare time drawing, painting and creating keep me grounded and happy. My preferred medium is painting on heavy-weight tracing paper using oil sticks and white spirit. However I also love to use different types of pencils, chalk pastels, acrylic paints and mixed media.
In the last year I have been running highly successful and enjoyable silk painting workshops with children and adults. This is just the start of many exciting things to come! If you are interested in these, or other future events please keep checking my website. I am currently taking bookings now for Spring and Summer by email and mobile phone. For those who wish to learn basic or slightly more advanced skills in silk painting, please look at the section on this, and there will soon be workshops to help you get your own drawing and painting skills off the ground too!
